Our story

Ātmā — “soul”, in Hindi

The Soul team in front of the mural in the restaurant

A 100% Punjabi kitchen, with recipes brought from home.

Soul opened in April 2024 on Strada Ocnei as “the first authentic Indian restaurant in Sibiu”. Khan Shahrukh, the manager and co-owner, comes from a modest family in Goa; he worked in hotels in Dubai and arrived in Sibiu in 2021. He renovated the first place with his own hands and painted its walls. His partner, Luis Serol from Portugal, helped the dream take shape.

In June 2025 Soul moved a few doors down to number 12: a bigger room, with Bollywood on the walls. The kitchen team is 100% Punjabi, and the rice and spices come from India. Hence the depth of the curries — and, because Goa never leaves your soul, a touch of coconut in the Soul Chicken.

Only two months in, Soul was the only restaurant in Sibiu with a perfect 5 on Google, at 180 reviews. In January 2026 it passed 1,000 reviews; today the average is 4.9. And from October 2026, Soul is on the road: a second restaurant opens in Oradea.

Masala dabba

The tin of favourites.

Every Indian kitchen keeps a masala dabba — the round brass tin with the day's spices. Ours holds the dishes Sibiu orders most. Pick a bowl.

Heat, by the number

You name a number. The kitchen honours it.

At Soul every dish is cooked to the level you ask for, on a scale from 1 (“delicate”) to 10 (“Vindaloo level”). And for the brave, the scale carries on up the Wall of Fire.

Tell your server the number when you order. First time here? Start between 2 and 4 — you can always climb on your next visit.

the record on the board in the restaurant — February 2026

“All talk and no chillies? Spice levels aren't bragged about. They're beaten!”

On the wall at Soul hangs a board with the highest heat level ever finished. In January 2026 the record was 15; a month later, 20. Are you the next legend?

The room

Bollywood on the walls, cocktails on ice.

Soft light, plants, Bollywood posters and macramé lamps. Since March 2026 the bar also pours an Exotic Cocktails menu — crushed ice, citrus, mint and dried orange.

  • The room is small and intimate — book ahead, especially in the evening.
  • Any dish marked with a green leaf on the menu can be cooked 100% vegan.
  • In a hurry? Everything is available to take away or to order on Wolt.
